Mission: Monthly Medium Linky Party - Burlap

I am very excited to bring you the first Linky Party of 2013!  Each month, I will introduce a new craft medium - a craft supply that you and I will use to create something fabulous!

I'm also happy to introduce you to January's co-host, Jess, from Plucky's Second Thought!  If you are visiting from her site, welcome!  I'm happy to have you!  You can link up your burlap creations at either her blog or mine and they will show up on both!  Be sure to stop by Plucky's Second Thought to check out her burlap creation!  {Want to be a co-host one month?  It's easy!  Go HERE.}

I'm anxious to show you my own burlap creation - Burlap Curtains for our living room!

This was kinda easy if you know how to sew...which I don't...so I enlisted the help of my awesome mom.  {Thanks again, Mom!}

Here is the space before curtains:

I knew the natural color of burlap would be a nice way to warm up the windows in our living room.  I measured the windows and purchased burlap in the 36" width.  {I didn't have to hem the sides since the width was perfect for our windows.}

Mom and I folded the length of burlap in half to create two layers, then measured the burlap to trim to the appropriate length.

When we cut the layers, we ended up with two burlap sheets of the same length, and only had to cut once!  {Mom is so clever...}

This is where I handed it over to Mom.  I am not a seamstress by any means.  At one point, she said she ran out of bobbin, and I thought she needed something from the pantry.  {Only half-kidding...}  Anyway, the curtain rods were only 3/4", so she stitched a 1 1/2" space at the top of each for the rods, and hemmed the bottoms the same amount.

My super cute and handy hubby hung the curtain rods, and we ended up with these lovely, warm burlap curtains:

I couldn't believe how lovely they look in our living room!  Oh, I bought some ruffle ribbon in a cream color to use as tie-backs, and simply used a clear push pin to attach them to the walls. Because they are in the corner, and the ribbon is ruffled, you can't see the pins.

Now it's your turn!  How did you use the craft medium, burlap, to create something fabulous? Link up your creations!
